Remington 700 CP (chassis pistol)

I was eyeballing my 243 Model 7 youth rifle that none of the kids use anymore. Add a folding chassis, a brake and dial in some loads. I had no idea some of you were already doing something like this.
It makes a lot of sense for decent truck guns or dedicated hunting rigs.
I was also thinking about a switch barrel in 6.5 something, 22-250 and 243 or xxx caliber of ones choosing. We don't have hogs here but lots of small game.

So for those that do have a suppressor, which chamberings to go with? I still think velocity would suffer on the .308 and the .300blk really shines on an AR platform. Is this a "buy and rebarrel immediately" thing?

I could see using the .300blk at 200yards or less- even suppressed that's a lot smaller and lighter than my 20" .308win. Again though, an AR pistol can come in about the same size, minus the buffer tube.

I've had savage strikers (7/08 and .308) and a Weatherby mk5 CFP (centerfire pistol, in .243)

The only thing you lose is velocity, but I was making hits on milk just at near 800 yards with the .243. The 7/08 I didn't shoot much, it was too pretty if you can believe that being a savage haha. The .308, well I'd probably shoot deer size game as far with it as I would my .308 rifle, 350-400 yards. If I know it's going to be longer, I pick a different tool. Like anything, to be good at it you need to practice and these kinds of pistols are definitely no exception. They are extremely fun to hunt with, especially still hunting.

This is a two year old thread so some things have changes over that period. Remington added the 6.5 Creedmoor chamber:

"In 2019, Remington introduced the 700 Chassis Pistol (CP) version of its legendary Model 700 bolt-action rifle. Bolted into an aluminum chassis, the action uses a detachable magazine and is chambered for 5.56mm/.223 Remington, 300 Blackout and .308 Winchester cartridges. But for 2020, Remington has decided to offer the 700 CP in the popular 6.5 Creedmoor. Big Green has also made the 700 CP available with an SB Tactical arm brace, which makes the pistol even easier to shoot."

Apples to apples, 125gr vs 150gr in 12.5" 308

125gr, avg speed of top six fastest powders = 2695 fps

150gr, avg speed of top six = 2495 fps

125gr BC .327 (Bryan Litz), 150gr BC .397 (Litz)

When both sighted in +2" high at 100y :

200y
125gr - 2202 fps, 1346 ft lbs, Point of impact = 0.0"
150gr - 2103 fps, 1472 ft lbs, POI = -0.7" low

300y
125gr - 1977 fps, 1085 ft lbs, POI = -9.0" low
150gr - 1921 fps, 1229 ft lbs, POI = -11.1" low

400y
125gr - 1767 fps, 866 ft lbs, POI = -26.7" low
150gr - 1750 fps, 1000 ft lbs, POI = -30.7" low

I've now had a bit of an experience I also shoot a 22" factory tapered/fluted Rem 700 LTR in 6.8SPC my preferred bullet are 95gr Barnes TTSX @ 2900fps I had an opportunity to purchase 500 110gr Accubonds I am loading them @ 2750fps.

This last Sunday morning I came across a spike blacktail buck that some neck shooting genius had taken a shot at it had its jaw mostly blown off I had to put it down and out of its misery it was standing almost perfectly broadside to me I shot it at appr 140 yards with the 110gr Accubond load this is the first time I have used them on deer.

The bullet entered directly behind the right leg broke two ribs traveled thru both lungs broke two ribs on the off side deer ran appr 50 - 70 yards.

To say I was impressed with the Accubonds performance is an understatement but more to it it made me think about the load - trajectory data above for the 12.5" barreled 308 Win.

If I can get the same performance from the he 125gr load above which has is faster - flatter trajectory than the 150gr bullets I would be very happy I have now purchased the last two boxes of 125gr Accubonds that I can find anywhere.
