Remington 572 Pump 22 won't cock

Anyone have experience in Rem 572 .22?
It won't cock mainly unless you hold the pump forward. It also will allow pump to operate without using the release.
I can usually rebuild anything, engines, trans, boat drives, laptops, phones etc.
Didn't get into yet, just wanted to see what some knowledge guys here say.

How old and internal dirty is it? I have owned 4 of these and currently 2, and if parts aren't worn/damaged, sometimes a good cleaning helps.

I failed to mention, the good cleaning and light lubing I did.
Nothing appeared damaged, I just didn't dig deeper yet.
