I have a 1960 vintage rem 700 in 222 caliber with over 10,000 rounds down the pipe. I am looking to up grade to a long distance flatter shooting caliber. Any suggestions?

So a short action magnum or anything to carry a longer OAL cartridge would need consideration of mag length of your current rig. Start with a measure of the mag box. Then look at options.

204 Ruger with that bolt face.

Cheers.
204 Ruger would be flatter shooting out to 500-maybe 600 yards? Or a 20 Practical if you're a handloader for easy, cheap brass. I lust after a 20 Practical or a fast twist .223. Maybe a .223 AI!

223AI set up for the Berger 85.5gn, or 6x45 Improved. 58gn 6mm V-Max doesn't suffer anything compared to a 223 AI.

The 204 Ruger is flatter in the vertical, but less so in the horizontal unless you happen to find some 55gn Bergers. 224 and 6mm have more heavy options.
