Reloder 26

Went out today with the 06, was COLD OUT......................7 degrees br............,but when you love to shoot you GO!! Sarted with 59.5 gr. R26 and the 208 Hornady ELD Match was around 2580 fps groups were around 3/4 " worked up to 61.5 was at 2780 and had 2 in the same hole next went 1/2" high..... was me to cold to try and hold, finger was getting numb, will go out again Saturday, will try 62.0 along with 61.5 again ,Pete

I did a temp test today with my 6.5 wsm.
32 degrees out
3076

72 degrees
3080

Fed 215 primers and 60.7 grains powder. Firm believer in magnum primer for this power.

My 270wsm barrel prefers BR2 primers with RL26 in primer testing, twice.
My 6AI prefers GM210M.

I guess each barrel has its own personality.

Back to the range today with the 06 and the 208 ELD Match ,used 3 different brass cases in 3 shot firings, all were hovering around 3/8 's at 100 velocity ran from 2830 for 1 type to 2860 to the other,S.D. ran from 15.05 to 21.6, maybe it was the cold,it was 6 degrees out with light snow. I tried a charge of R26 and fed 215 Magnum Match and the velocity on 2 shots ran 100 feet per second apart 2765, 2870 with hard extraction so stopped ,did not fire a 3rd shot, maybe was too hot for the case shape, size and bore dia.,it does like BR2's though. It is a long time till summer though,as spring can still be crappy here, was pleased with the velocity though in the 06 with 208's and a B.C. of I believe of .670 , should do fairly well at long distances. Pete

Looks like it tested out well for you. Almost the same velocity difference I found with my 300 WSM in similar temps.

I'm running RL26 & 208's in my old Interarms 06 Mauser with 24" sporter weight barrel. Running a real mild load. Win brass, 58.3gr RL26, & CCI 200's @ 2545'. Been very consistent tho .2-.4" @ 100. Only crux is a generous throat in this old girl. I'm at 3.850" cbto w/guage to lands & the sweet spot is .002" jump, so she's a single shot. I ran up to 60gr for my ladder test & hit pressure signs there. I did have a higher node at 59.5grs @ 2645' but the lower has had consistent single digit es. I'm running RL26 in just about all my centerfire rifles now. Kevin

If the snow stops will go out tomorrow and try some Fed 210 Match to see what happens,I really like this powder,as I said before it really reminds me of the old Norma 205 of LONG AGO,it too was a great powder, Pete

I forgot to mention,I have tried Hornady, PPU and S&B cases, they have more case capacity than Rem.,Win. and Fed. plus the extra 2 "s of barrel help,Pete

Went out today -2 and slight wind and snow, loads set on the bench for 1 hour before shooting. I have found the the 210 Gold Medal gave me the edge over CCI BR2 , Loaded up PPU,S&B and Hornady . PPU gave the lowest SD's 5.7 and Hornady was the largest over the others S&B and ppu of 40.57,might not have been a good test as was so cold that trigger finger way hurtin and numb. Kinda hard to group when you are hurtin and numb, but they did manage to put 1 group with the PPU in just under 1/2 ". Love shooting and fooling around with loads but have come to the conclusion for real tests I might have to wait till spring :( Pete

It's weird how that works. I tried fed 210m and it worked the same in average temps. But when it dropped to below 45 my velocity dropped off at 35 FPS. I looked at Allaint loading manual and they always tested rl26 with fed215 no matter the cartridge. Have you tested in lower temps with the fed 210m or BR2?

I tested the 210M against the CCI250 in the 300 WSM at 20* F. Both primers produced comparable velocity, ~3015 fps with a 200 grain ELD-X, but the CCI 250 was more consistent. For some reason every once in a while the 210M produced a velocity spike of up to 20 fps above other shots in the string. The CCI250 doesn't do this, at least in the 20 rounds I've fired across the Magneto Speed with the 250 in this combination.

The best advice here is that primers can do some weird things. Just like seating depth and powder charge tuning, one should test primers to achieve optimal consistency. The results may be surprising.

I have not tried either primer below -2 , I did try the 215 M Gold Medal and had spikes of up to 105 fps,it was around the 2nd week of Dec. and temps were still nice out , around 45 out, maybe it was the long thin case of the 06 or it just did not like the combo, the more I shoot the more I find my rifles are like women, can be very finicky of their food!;) Pete
