Reloader 26 in 6.5 creedmoor

So what people are saying is the 6.5 CM manufactured by Hornady can push 140 grain bullets as fast as Hornady's new 6.5 PRC which is supposed to be 200-250 FPS than the CM and the 6.5 PRC pushes 140 - 143 grains bullets between 2975 - 3025 FPS. I think Hornady messed up somewhere.
You obviously haven't read the whole thread...

No mess up. Here is some quick load data. Even with a 10% below max saami pressure margin, loaded to 2.800" OAL, and a 22" barrel, 2922 fps is attainable. Nothing new here. I can't speak for the capabilities of the 6.5 prc, I haven't loaded for one.

What's 27.0 Mean?
2900 FPS is more believable from a 26" barrel than 3000 FPS from a 22" barrel. I know my 260 Rem before I changed my 24" factory barrel I could push 140 grain bullets approaching the 2800 FPS mark. Now I have a 27" Krieger with a factory Remington trued action. My max COAL is 2.840 but I load mine no further than 2.820 so they feed good through my Mag reliable. I get about 2990 FPS. My factory 24" barrel after it was taken off my action was measured at 23.5". Now my barrel is a measured 27". So between the extra length and my action haveing some work done to it I was able to pick up an extra 250 ish FPS. The only 6.5 CM I've seen get anywhere near the 3000 FPS ( more closer to the 2950 FPS mark ) are running 28 - 30" barrels and they are running full custom Medium length actions so they can set their bullets longer and get more powder in the casing. For every 1" in barrel length you gain roughly 25 FPS in none magnum rifles. In magnum rifles I've seen as much as 60 FPS gain per inch of barrel length added. I have not been reloading as long as some of these other people on here but I do have about 35 years of experience on it.

Alot of it depends on what brass your using i think. Hornady brass I can fit 49-49.5 grains in without a drop tube. I can't get that in peterson brass.

I've never heard of anyone getting 3000 fps with a 22in creed or even a 24in. You need the 26in to really get you there. The probability of actually shooting it there though is slim. You'd most likely back off to around 2900-2950

I dont think you can get 3000 from a 22". I can get that out of 26" but chose to stay around 2900 for brass life. Assuming 25 fps per inch your looking at 2800-2900. If your only getting 2750 from a 26" with R26 your missing out. I can do that with H4350.

I can get 3000fps w/140gr ELD-M in my 22" Kimber, but it's a fast barrel and that's leaning on it. No pressure signs but it's close to showing and I'm certain is pushing SAAMI pressure limit. My son's rifle, also a Kimber, hits pressure hard at 2900. My experience has been 150-200 faster than other powders in the 6.5CM. It's magic and makes the 6.5CM a 6.5 PRC. That said loading the 6.5 PRC with RL26 or better yet VV570 and you will see similar gains. So is handloaded 6.5CM RL26 ~ factory 6.5 PRC? Yes, but you can get similar gains in the PRC so then it's ahead once again.

Quickload shows 48.5 gr max at 63091 and 3017 with 140 eldm. My chrono was 3009.
49 grains is slightly over pressure at 65930 and 3052. My chrono was 3053. So it's real close.

Yes if your getting 3000 in a 22" your overpressure. Most likely getting close to 70k
2950 would be closer to 65k.

Hornady manufactured ammo doesn't get anywhere close to this performance

Even though my pet load for both my 6.5 creedmoor rifles uses RL-17 I managed to squeeze a lot of MV before running into trouble using RL-26. Here are my best 2 loads using this powder. I went with RL-17 just because SD was under 10 using that one.

My rifle has a 1:8" 26" bartlein barrel.

Hornady ELD-M 147gr
Nosler case
RL-26 47.5
BTOL: 2.222"
CCI 200
MV 2906
SD: 12.3

Berger Hybrid Target 140gr
Nosler case
RL-26 48.5
BTOL: 2.222"
CCI 200
MV 2998
SD: 13.4

I know. Yet there is still people posting the 3000 FPS mark with a 6.5CM and the 6.5 PRC can barely achieve those numbers. With a 140 - 147 grain bullet from a 26" Barrel. For all the new reloader's, be cautious where you get your reloading date from. Buy you a good reloading book, such as Hornady, Berger, there are others to choose from as well. Those two are pretty good. Do your homework. All ways start with a low charge to be on the safe side. Your books will give you some pretty good pics of what to look for if you load to hot. How to look for Pressure Sign's. Good luck everyone.
