How much of the recoil lug do y'all recommend to be relieved in bedding a Model 70 and a Remington 700 action?

On the Rem 700's I relieve the front and both sides of the lug about the thickness of one piece of thick electrical tape.
For the Win M-70 I only use one piec of tape accross the front of the lower part of the lug so it s a littl easier to remove.

in either case you want the back of the lug making full contact so it take the brunt of the recoil

I leave the bottom of the lug alone to have full contact like the back of the lug. In my mind it kinda acts like another bedding pillar and adds a little more for the stock to hold to when the action is torqued.
