RAMSHOT LRT POWDER

Here is some data from my ladder test today, at the 300 yard line.

Your mileage may very. A big thanks to Moses42ak for a starting point.

338 NM
Peterson Case (not virgin)
FED 215
300 Grain Berger Hybrid OTM Tactical

Speeds from Labradar

Charge / Speed
93.8 / 2578
94.1 / 2605
94.4 / 2570
94.7 / 2592
95.0 / 2592
95.3 / 2635
95.6 / 2628
95.9 / 2631
96.2 / 2635
96.5 / 2651

I will say this powder is pretty dirty. I cleaned my barrel before going to my next ladder and it took a couple passes and soakings after ten rounds.

But, so far I'm liking it. Going to work up until I see pressure signs, then start messing with seating depth.

Well, my powder finally arrived & here I sit in a different state lol I'm hoping to get home in time to load & do a quick ladder to see where my chamber pressures out. Time will tell.

Ran a ladder with some LRT today with my 338 NM.

I had been working with 300 grain Berger's but decided to try it with the 275 grain BDII.

Started at 96.8 grains of LRT and only went up to 98.6, working up in .3 grain increments.

Funny how things work out, because I started to get heavy bolt lift at 98.3 and 98.6. Speeds weren't terrible, but definitely not what I've been recently getting with H1000 and the same 275 grain BDII.

Case: Peterson (not virgin)

How long is your barrel? The gun barrel that is?

Well folks, I know it took way longer than I anticipated but, I finally shot my pressure ladder last Saturday.

Cartridge: 338 RUM
Case: Remington Virgin
Primer: FED 215M
Bullet: Hornady 285 ELD
Powder: Ramshot LRT

Charge/Speed
90.0/2531
91.0/2564
92.0/2604
93.0/2688
94.0/2678
95.0/2705
96.0/2760
97.0/2770
98.0/2801
99.0/2858
100.0/2826?? **Noticed the bayonet was loose, possible error**

All brass extracted perfectly with absolutely zero pressure signs. I was a little disappointed at not hitting my goal of 2900fps... But, according to the Western Powders reloading manual, I did achieve their listed max velocity for 338 Lapua with the 285 & LRT...

What do y'all think? Should I run it?

1.5" for that big of a span is pretty good actually. What I would do is size your 11 fired rounds, and start at 98 and go up until you find initial pressure, which you will probably be pretty close and only have to shoot a few more rounds. This will tell you what your max will be with fired brass, and help keep you from beating up brass down the line. Virgin brass I noticed can sometimes slightly hide initial pressure signs. But from looking at your velocity, I would say your getting close. I would look for a flat spot in velocity from the 2800-2900 range, depending on where you start to see pressure.

If you don't mind losing a couple of pieces of brass keep running up a bit further IMO and find the real top.

But if you can find a something that groups that's slower, I'm also a fan of running big cases slow and not beating things up just trying to find speed. That's one reason I run the RUM and not a Win Mag - I can get Win Mag speeds with lazy loads and even Hornady brass holds up nicely.
