I decided to purchase QL, and it arrived yesterday in the mail. I'm wondering, you folks that have it,how difficult is this thing to load, for a novice computer user ? Is it, more or less, following the bouncing blue ball ? Or more like trying to decipher the dead Sea scrolls ?

it is easy to load even a computer idiot like me had no problems just follow on screen instructions. now learning to use it is a totally different animal altogether. best advice is to first play with all the different inputs to try and match Hodgen load data as close as possible.

Put it in the drive and follow the prompts.

I'm not worried about trying to match ANY of the loading manuals out there.
None of them are consistent with the data from one to another.

With my Savage rifles in standard SAAMI cartridges it's been about 25fps (+,-).
Match it to what your firearm is giving you over a chrono.
Or better yet, your trued values after shooting at longer distances.

matching a manual helps give you ideas on how all the different inputs effect the outcome. there is definitely more to quickload than adjusting BA to match crony results like the internet would have you believe.

Thanks . I have a load worked up in my rifle from published data, figured I'd see what that one looks like comparatively. And maybe some book loads, too, that may be sensible. But I gotta get it installed, first. So it's fairly simple? I'm freaking terrified!! HATE computers!!! But if I could get a place to start from, with different components, it'll be worth it. So, somewhat simple, then. Thanks guys.
P.S. Is there a support group for guys like me?
(Hi, I'm Gregg. And I'm Tech Illiterate.)
(Welcome, Gregg...)

I'm Ken, and i'm computer illiterate.

My son in law coming over today to get rid of a virus i picked up looking at gun porn.

I gotta learn not to click on all those downloads.
My degree is in Computer Network Technology. I too run into these web sites that are infected, to my way of thinking by anti gun people. I use Norton 360 for virus protection and while have gotten warned by Norton about going to an unsavory place, I have followed its advice and not clicked on it again. I haven't had a virus in years. Ransom wear was another story. Since I no longer have anything of grave importance on any of my computers and have good backups I simply used system restore and it went away, so far never to return.

Norton is not really cheap, at $100 per year for the best system which includes lifelock, but think about how little it costs in regards to a couple of boxes of bullets, a couple pounds of powder(maybe even one pound these days) and the peace of mind that your computer, and those of 9 other computers in your family can use the program and pretty much be virus free. Keep in mind when it comes to computers, for the most part you get what you pay for.

it's that easy to install just wear a hat while you're learning to use it, it will save on your hair.
Man, you aint kidding about the hair thing!!
So I start it up after install...easy. Then selections made for cartridge. Start fiddling with bullet dimensions, trying to fit a Berger 338 250 hybrid into fields reflecting Sierra 250. Then I find there is a Berger in the library. Oh, that looks better. Next the powder.....dang, shoulda blown the gun up! Fiddle with that, finally get it where it looks right, and finally, I lose the screen cause I hit the wrong button. #!÷@&!!!!!!
I'm going to do an actual water capacity measurement, instead of the default, and maybe it'll come closer. As it stands, it's predicting about 80fps slow.

ok after getting case capacity get an average of 10 or more bullet lengths, Bergers have been off as much as .050 on some bullets over the years. next locate the box under the kj/kg on the right side of the powder selection and click on it. it will open the temperature selector above the apply and calc icon. now you can adjust outside temperatures. it will also open the fields to allow you to adjust powder Ba. but don't exceed more than =/- 5% of original Ba. if your velocity is still off but it is telling you pressures are off the charts try lowering the weighting factor. past experience with the 338 edge 0.45 is a good start but not set in stone.

have fun it will be a learning experience but once you get the hang of it, it will allow you to try different bullet and powder combinations without having to spend money or waist supplies

I'll stick to this thread as another has gone array! I've has this program for several years and I'm still trying to learn the in's and out's of a productive result. I've used published data for cross checking and some have shown way over pressure. Some loads are what I've used for decades without any issues, but QL states otherwise. I'm not sure what to make of it!

if you have your case capacity, bullet length, weight and your oal. all set and you have set temp. and Ba. and your velocities are good or still low, but it says pressure is off the charts and from experience your primers and brass or even your bolt lift are saying something different lower weighting factor.
