QD Users?

Not sure if this is the correct section, but here goes. I have an AR10 where I'll be using a thermal with quick detach base. I'm considering also putting a QD base on a 'day' scope to use before dark and then take it off and put the thermal on after dark. Main use will be hog hunting with 120 or less yard shots most typical. Wondering if anyone has done the QD thing with 2 different optics on the same rifle and is it feasible to expect the POI wouldn't change much if both are sighted in. Thanks for any insight.

depends what you consider "sighted in" and how accurate you expect your system to be.

I had a Kinetic Dev Group mount on my 5-42x HighMaster mounted on top of my 25 Creed in a Cadex Chassis.
I had enough confidence in it's repeatability to detach and re-attach it in the middle of a match. For shooting critters inside 200 yds...as long as your QD system is legit, and your rifle shoots consistent...you should be fine.

any good qd mount will go back to zero close enough to not worry about, remember to push it towards the muzzle as you close it to seat it against the rail.

I've run red dots and a scope back and forth on the same gun for a long time, both go back to where they were sighted in

I've had no problems with zero on my 6 arc or cz 22 doing what you mentioned.

My wife and I have been using Leupold QD's since the '90'…..we always go hunting with "back-up" scopes. I tested them for repeatability several times upon just getting them. They seemed to work quite well.

While they were not used on semi-auto firearms, they were used on fairly high recoil firearms….. a .338 WM and a .375 AI, neither wears a brake! memtb

You will be fine I've done it many times with both of these rifles.

For my Halo X I've currently got 20 different shooting systems set with multiple bullets under every rifle. For my FLIR I've got 17 rifles also with multiple bullets. Both have American Defense QD rails. And I run Bobro QD on all my day scopes. Never had issues swapping around.

I have no problem switching from my thermal to an optic on the same rifle but if I want to take the thermal to a different rifle, I have to adjust the zero/ POI as one might expect because setup factors. I really like the QD setup and the options it gives me. I actually have mine setup with a side mounted (offset) optic/red dot so I have options for multiple situations.
