Just picked up a stock savage 116 bear hunter in .300 RUM. I got it on a trade from another forum member. It's stainless steel, with a 26 inch fluted barrel, with a muzzle break, and a camo stock. It is pre-accutrigger. Can anyone give me ideas about a possible build? I want a heavy duty, long range rig. Caliber, barrel, stock, trigger, and gunsmith advice is all welcomed. I am kind of on a budget to add to the mix, around 1500. If you have a similar rifle can you post pics? Any advice welcomed.

If it started life as a ultra mag then it has a very hard to find magazine you could build a edge and have it as a repeater very hard to do with savage hardware. The hole spacing however should be same as all other Savage long actions so you have a ton of stock options.

So I can build an edge on this platform? What about a lapua? Is the bolt face too small for 338 lapua?

Your current boltface is too small for a Lapua. Read this below and it will give you the info you are looking for. This was taken from another post here on LRH by J E Custom

Some times when considering a rebarrel and chamber or cartrige change you need to
know what round will work without boltface and extractor work.

I have a cheat sheet/ready reference and thought I would share it with every anyone
that is interested.

All of these groups of cartriges should interchange without bolt face and extractor
work.( some work on recever rails may be needed to improve feeding ).

As far as wild cats what ever the parent case was it should work in the action listed.

I know this list is not complete but it's close.
