Nosler Compressed Loads?

when you seat the bullet longer on a non compressed load ,still lowers the pressure and velocity a little .

Any idea how much more powder can be placed in the case when you seat the bullet out further? Like for every .020" you can add .2 grains?

give me your details . your working with a 7mm-08 , correct ? , bbl length , bullet and weight , COAL , powder used , what does your book show as max powder charge , book max velocity .

you were saying about using a 2.885 COAL , and this gave a .025 jump . will this fit and feed from your magazine ?

The nosler BT I was working up was 140 grain. My barrel is 20". 7mm08. Powder was using varget but may switch to RL 15. Nosler box is saying 42 grains is max at 2850 FPS with a 26" barrel. I got to 40.2 last weekend.

Book OAL is 2.800" I loaded to 2.885 to get .025" off the lands. Mag length is 2.995-3.000.

But I picked up some Hornady 150 eld x on sale last night. Loading them to OAL to 2.885, results in about a .063" jump because the ogive is much further back vs the 140 grain nosler BT

7mm-08 , 20" bbl , 140 gr B-Tip , RL15 , 42 gr , 2.800 COAL , 55801PSI , 2723 FPS .
all the same as above ....................................., 2.885 COAL , 52803 psi , 2686 FPS .
all the same as above .................RL15 , 42.8 gr , 2.885 COAL , 55840PSI , 2735FPS
quickload shows max psi at 60191
all the same as above .................RL15 , 43.8 gr , 2.885 COAL ,59882 psi , 2796FPS
all the same as above .................RL15 , 42.9gr , 2.800 COAL ,59515 PSI , 2779 FPS
**looks like the nosler book is keeping you about 1.0 grains under max as a safety ***

these would be max loads , so start low and work up watching for pressure signs .

the 7mm ELD bullets I have listed are 162's or 175's , so I can't help you on these .

just for an FYI .
same everything as above .
RL17 , 47.7 gr , 2.800 , 59980 psi , 2880 fps
RL17 , 48.6gr , 2.885 , 59922 psi , 2892 fps

Looked like I should've gotten R17 instead of R15. Bummer I can't return powder! Those numbers are for a 20" barrel correct?

Thank you for those numbers! So it looks like for every .010 I seat out further I can add approx .1 grain of powder!

yes the info is based on a 20" bbl .

yes on this combo , it's working out to be about .010 length is adding .1 gr of powder . you're welcome , glad I could help .
