I used 140 gr Sierra GKs as a low cost test bullet:

64.0 gr N 217 2894 66.0 gr N 217 3053 66.5 gr N 217 3067 67.0 gr N 217 3081
Next I tried the 160 Sierra Semi-pointed as a stand in for the expensive 160 gr Woodleighs

160 Sie SemiP 61.5 gr N 217 2768 160 Sie SemiP 62.0 gr N 217 2807 160 Sie SemiP 62.5 gr N 217 2862 160 Sie SemiP 63.0 gr N 217 2903
160 Sie SemiP 62.0 gr Retumbo 2899
160 Sie SemiP 62.5 gr VV N570 2952
F215
I shot two shot strings of the 160gr SMPs at different bulls. All were touching at 100 yards. This powder shows promise with heavier than normal bullets in magnum cases. Norma says this is the famous powder that produces 3400 fps with 180 gr bullets in the Norma 30-378. When this load first came out we verified it as soon as we got our hands on the rifles and factory ammo. I was working at Arnold Arms at the time. Unlike Remington and Winchester data, the Norma loads lived up to their billing.

Norma 217 is slightly slower than VV N-570 but is much more manageble because the kernel size is more like Retumbo. Norma 217 is way slower than Retumbo.

I used CCI 250 primers with Norma 217 because that is all I have on hand.

Just so I am clear, this was with a 6.5WSM??? Dad is having one built as we speak and has been looking for some data and a jumping off powder.

Has anybody tride Norma 217 in the 338 lapua inp. 300gr bullets ? I am wondering if it shoot like r-33 powder does in the big bores. I am wondering if it isn't the same powder just made for norma ? Thanks Joe

I've been working with norma 217 in my 7wsm. 24" barrel all loads with fed 215 and 3.05" oal. All loads through a 8" drop tube slightly compressed.
Norma 217 with 150 ABLR
74.0 3059 fps.
75.0 3134
76.0 3212
77.0 3266 1/2" max load

Norma 217 with 168 ABLR
72.0 3015
73.0 3064
74.0 3093 5/8" max load

I'm getting 10-12 reloads on the max loads, winchester cases

does anyone have starting load for the 217 for a 6.5 x 284 Norma with a hundred forty grain a-max or burger hybrid target bullets. I have a savage 12 Br 29 inch barrel
