New scope or classic unertl

Might be a long winded post, but looking at picking up a 70s or 80s Remington 700 bdl varmint in 22-250 just for woodchucks and I'm debating on what scope to put on it. I have all kinds of newer rifles, carbon stocks, carbon barrels, fluted barrels, you name it. But I'm a sucker for nostalgia, something about a wood stock and blued steel does it for me. I have older rifles as well, but not a "woodchuck" gun. Mainly looking to see if anyone has any experience with the older style say 20x long tube unertl or tasco scopes, if the adjustments would be repeatable, or I'm I'm wasting my time and should just get a Leupold or nightforce for it. I understand the argument for glass quality or features or eye relief etc, but the look of that rifle with a unertl would be perfect for what I'm looking for as long as it will " hold zero" . Any personal experience you could sure would be appreciated thanks! Pfa

Nostalgia is nice but I'd put a modern scope on it that will track and hold zero. It doesn't have to cost a fortune.
I have an older Remington Varmint Special 22-250 and I put an Arken on it and it tracks and holds zero perfectly.

The field of view in high power Unertls is small. They're good for targets, cause the target doesn't show up in a new place every once in awhile, but unless your woodchucks show up in the same place all the time you're gonna spend time finding them in your field of view.

A genuine Unertl on a 700 BDL Varmint is about as cool as it gets. When you pull that rifle out of a case, people stop and look. It just looks right. Long blued tube, walnut stock, heavy barrel, it's the image many of us have in our heads when we think of classic woodchuck rifles.

I've owned a couple of Unertls over my hunting & shooting span, big mistake selling/trading them for some more modern scope back then. I found them to be a great scope. I didn't trade them off due to failure in the field or on the range. I sure wish I had them back. Cheers

Classic Varmint Special with modern scope that didn't break the bank but WILL hold zero and Track. Still looks ok to me.

I have a STEEL 10x EL PASO AO FIXED WEAVER. lt looks ''as new'' that l could let go. It shows much nicer than these 0ld Unertyls. lmhop
