New one on me

Ive had my Lyman 2000 electronic scale turned on on my bench for two days. I was planning on loading some ammo just to pass the time. I sat down, calibrated it, everything went well. I checked it with my check weights everything as it should be. I placed my empty pan on the scale and noticed it was heavier than usual, I cleaned it thoroughly and tried again, once again it's heavier. I got the check weights out, they weight perfect. It seems for some reason the plastic powder pan is causing wired weights. If I put it on and take it off it seems to get heavier, I rezero often but it won't settle down. Check weights confirm scale is right on, my RCBS 10 10 confirms check weight are on. Any ideas why the plastic powder pan is causing strange readings?

what's strange about it? How for off is it? Did you weigh out some charges and double check them with another scale?

Normally the empty powder pan weighs 68.3 grains, it's weighting anywhere from 66 to 70 .2 grains

My guess would be static energy in the plastic pan.

Is there a warmup time on the scale? Could also be static

Static in the plastic pan. Use a dryer sheet on the pan. See if that eliminates the problem.

Cold weather could be causing more static. Also, is your lighting fluorescent or regular incandescent light bulbs? Fluorescent bulbs have caused accuracy problems with electronic scales.

No fluorescent light, phone downstairs, warmed up for 48 hrs. I'll try a dryer sheet . Has me stumped, worked fine for 10+ years

Ok, rubbed the pan and scale down with a dryer sheet, it's all good, thanks to everyone.

You don't have a ceiling fan or air vent pushing air do you? Most likely static, but if you have air circulating in the room, the plastic pan increases the air resistance on the scale.

I got tired of spilling powder from my pan so I bought one that is a scale and a funnel.

Robot or human?

Have not had any static problems in the past 2 years I got it.

For my shotgun loaders I will hang a dryer sheet in the powder bottles and wipe down everything that's plastic with a dryer sheet. Powders for my 410 loader used to give me a fit with static.
