Of course, you can save the money and just do the poor man's method of bringing a little cooler filled with ice to the range with you. I used to do this all the time. But it gets your fingers painfully cold and makes a watery mess everywhere. Then when you get home, you have to take the action out of the stock to dry all the parts you couldn't get to with the stock on. PITB.
The Misty Mate is quicker, cleaner, easier, and more effective. Well worth the 35 smacks you'll spend on the rig.
All this talk of icing down barrels is giving me summer sickness. RIght now at my house, I could stick the barrel out the window and I'd have icicles hanging off it in about a minute!
