Needs some scope advice !

I am going to shoot at a 2k range. Taking my 338 Lapua. I currently have a Vortex Optics Razor HD 5-20x50. Can someone tell me if this scope has the ability to help me make a 2k shot?

If you don't know how to check your dope and see how how many mils, moa or whatever you're using that you're going to need, then you have a lot of preparing to do unless you just want to lob bullets at the target. In which case it doesn't really matter then.

But to answer the question:

You're going to be subsonic around a mile and you'll be somewhere around 27 mils of drop depending on your load, set up, and atmospherics.

With a 30 moa base you will run out of turret adjustment about 22-25 mils depending on zero and again, your dope. The good news is you can hold the difference. If you're all up in your magnification you could finagle another 5 mils at least.

So the sum of it is…probably.

Thanks for this detailed response. I do have a Garmin Foretrex 901 and asume it would give me the dope I need. I do not have to much information on the place set up so I guess I will be lobbing bullets.

I will be driving 8 hours so I am hoping to hit something . I do want to at least have a chance to se the target.

Run it. AB is good software.

I recommend using a custom curve for the bullet you are using. Since you'll be subsonic probably, it will be most useful. Another tool the 901 can use is drop scale factor (DSF). If you're going to lob, maybe start at super sonic and true your MV, then do DSF at about transonic. It will help getting to 2000. If you work in that data real good, then you should expect some hits if you shoot consistent.

As far as the razor, it has a rediculous amount of elevation. About 34 mils. More than the current ones. The thing is, you don't get 34 mils. You'll get about half of that at zero, plus whatever the total is for whatever moa base you may use. If you're around 2800 fps I think you'll be fine.

As far as seeing the target, you'll see it. It won't be as nice as a 56mm obj, but you'll have a sight picture.

No, this will be a Dad, daughter event. I ususal shoot 1100 yards. So I am familiar with what I would call mid range shooting which I have been doing for years. I have never gone past that mark. Unfortunately, I don't have any buddies that share my interest.

This is great info. My Razor gives me about 125 MOA so I should be fine then. I just picked up a Garmin Foretrak 701 and a Garmin Xero 1 so hopefully it helps me out a little.
