Need help! What caliber and rifle?

What caliber and rifle was used here? Trying to figure out what happened.
No exit wound on either body or leg.

Yes missing on Thursday morning when neighbors heard two shots. Searched for two days with nothing. No blood trails or sounds. Sunday morning found dumped back on the property.

It's a friend's property and I'm just needing some help to what was used.

Are any fragments recovered in the carcass? I'd "SWAG" it and say perhaps a .17 Remington or something like it at very close range. Good luck, Cheers

Never got a chance to do that. There was powder around the entry, burnt fur slightly.

Perhaps a cartridge-like alarm warning trap? Say, the .12 ga class, I have a few of these from when I was camper fishing in Alaska (Bears) you "could" put a very large charge .12ga blank in one if there was a need, no shot just a kaboom... with a trip wire if it bumped into one... ouch! it going to leave a mark with burnt fur, from my testing of them they would beak bone if the subject was contacting it. They also come in a smaller size as well... Again just a guess on this end, yep... I'm going X-Files now.

Starting to think so, as the direction of the hole is straight up and down, almost like it was trapped and someone standing above shot. There is little to no blood on it or around the area it was dumped?
