It started out as a vanguard 300wsm, ordered a number 4 lilja ss barrel, rich sent me the dies and reamer. Then took all the parts to Dave at youngs guns and he squared everything up lapped the lugs cut the old threads out and cut new bigger dia in. Chambered the 6.5 ss with rich's new jgs reamer, then installed a coulée side discharge brake( don't know if this was nessacary because it's like shooting a 22-250).will this was being put together I made 125 of those short fat cases, and ordered some 150 gr matrix vld's. Got the rifle back and fire formed all the cases with cream of wheat. Started load devolpment yesterday and his thing is pretty awsome. Shots 2 and 3 to sight in and the next five showed some really good accuracy. Hopefully I can get a load good load worked up here in the next couple weeks and find myself a bear to try this thing out on. Thanks to Rich( elkaholic) for all your help and info, you made this pretty easy. Sorry couldn't flip pic on my phone

Very nice Tanner! Keep us informed as you go along. We are still looking for more load info. I have been out of touch with shooting since last fall with my big move. I have reports of N570 doing well as is RL33. H1000 is good but won't reach the best velocity. I think RL26 may be a good powder as well as IMR7977. I can't wait to get shooting again. This dry spell is killing me:D…..Rich

I am experimenting with ramshot magnum now. It is showing good accuracy but haven't got the speed I was hoping for yet. Hopefully will know more next week

Jealous. Mine will be ready in a month. I'll bug you for load info. I have some 150 matrix's as well.

I finally got out to shoot my ss today, had a 3 week delay getting painted but it turned out awsome, back to the good stuff. I have been shooting the 150 matrix with magnum powder and this thing is amazing. As soon as I get velocities verified I will post in the load thread for the ss,but so far I am getting good speed and great accuracy. This rifle has been so much fun!

Good to hear from you Tanner! Be sure to keep us posted with your results. Pics are nice:D......Rich

How well does the SS fit in the magazine on the Vanguard, theirs one down at the guns shop begging for a conversion :D I know the first time I hunted with my 6.5 SS it was kinda impressive just how much of a smack down the little bugger can throw down for how easy shooting it is, I never bothered putting a brake on mine after the first time out on the range.

The 150's just fit with about 10 thou clearance, the mag box will hold three but you can't close the bolt with 3 in the box, and they get bound up if they are not in just right. I ordered an atlasworx bottom metal and with about 5 min with a file I had the bottom metal in and I am very glad I did it. The cases feed flawless.the great thing about the atlas bottom metal is if I want to shoot shorter bullets I have the option to put the factory bottom metal back in.I am very happy with the vanguard action, this is the second rifle I have off one and would not hesitate to do it again.

Hi Tanner......How much Magnum have you loaded so far behind the 150's? I haven't tried it yet but am guessing that somewhere around 62 grains might be max?........Rich

I shot up to 62grs yesterday and I am defentitly getting close. Rich what velocity were you getting with the 150 and r33? My chrono said I was 3156 with that 62gr load. I know it's not the most accuate chrono, I would bet it's in the ball park though

I have reached 3200'+ with a stiff load and 3185' with RL26. 3156' is not bad, especially if you haven't quite reached max! What kind of accuracy are you getting?

Accuracy is amazing, I started at about 57 and 57 to 58 were really good but slow, the 61, 61.5 and 62 are really good under a or right at a half inch. This gun doesn't seem to care it loves these 150 matrix. If I can get 3150 to 3175 that will be a huge win in my book.. Especially as easy as it's been.

Sounding good so far. I don't imagine you are compressing the powder either.......Rich
