After a really busy day, I had about 45 min before dark to hunt. So I headed out. This guy showed up right as the light was fading. I got some trail cam pictures of him earlier in the season, but figured he was gone. The shot was at about 220 yds. He was standing about 10 yds from where I shot the one last year. I was using my 30/06 loaded 168 gr Barnes TTSX. I'm becoming a Barnes fan really quick.

Indiana. This is a great example of what can happen if people stop shooting anything with an antler, and let deer grow. My place was horrible hunting for years. People shot anything that moved, and it really had an effect on the deer population. EHD hit us hard twice in three years. And coyotes played a major roll in reducing the fawns. For the last five years, I've killed pretty much anything that killed deer, other than my family (resisted shooting neighbors). Last year was the first time in five years that we saw fawns. The deer population is starting to make a comeback. I got a nice buck last year, and this year. Most of my neighbors grew up farming, and are starting to understand what it takes to grow big deer. Treating our deer the way we grew up treating our cows is starting to pay off. Hopefully it continues. My deer lick from the same mineral blocks that my cows do. I'm really hoping that things keep heading in the right direction.
