Most of the ones around here die of lead poisoning, or cardiovascular failure. We killed over 60 hogs here last year, and at harvest time, we saw plenty that would take their place. But you're right, they do work on the hog population. Foxes too. We got plenty of them here too.

Same here in Western MD and eastern WV where I used to hunt them a lot. As soon as the coyotes showed up, groundhogs got scarce.

You are absolutely correct. I remember going out and shooting 8 of them in an afternoon and now, I'm lucky to see 3 a year. That's why I celebrate when I get one!

What a pig of a hog. Was at the range on Monday. While switching out rifles, one popped out at 209 yards. Came out of one hay field, crossed road, back into another. No shot. But...... ,I'm gonna give him a 123 Lapua Scenar at about 3k sooner then later. He was about the size of yours. Pop goes the weasel!.Eastern shore is loaded right now. Farmers are planting, and disturbing the little .

Once in a while, they show themselves at my range too. You are not supposed to shoot them but who can resist? I go to the range during the week to avoid the weekend warrior crowd and often times, I'm the only one there so……
