A friend of mine is in possion of a real nice garand,did the government get the thumb smasher
taken care of and do they still eat your thumb.

No And Yes. That is why this affliction is still called the M1 Thumb.

The M1 Garand has been considered obsolete since the the M14 was adopted. Why would the government "fix it"? Been sold as 'surplus' for a long time. It don't bite if ya' know how to use it!
