Just got a Lyman outside neck turner that I had ordered from Cabelas. In the description it didn't state that I needed the Lyman Trimmer to use with it.

Just wondering if I can use it by hand without the trimmer or should I send it back and the Forster hand trimmer?

Sorry you cannot use it by hand. You will have to buy the trimmer too. I would return it.

The Foster is far more superior to the Lyman. The Lyman's bushes wear out much easier since it is made of brass. The Foster is solid steal. I belief when it comes to price, the Foster might be a few buck more expensive, but it is quality for life.

I have purchased extra cutter shafts for the Foster and a outside neck turner/cutter for each calibre. When changing caliber I no longer dismantle the ouside neck cutter from the cutter shaft, I only take out the shaft and replace it with the new shaft and cutter for the other calibre. Much cheaper than buying a trimmer for each calibre. Consistancy is the key when doing outside neck turning and each time you dismantle the shaft and cutter for another cutter, it does not cut exactly the same. I use one spare cutter shaft for all my inside neck reamers. Reamers is also from Foster. Very few other brands manifacture them. It is used to cut out do-nuts.

I meant the Forster trimmer mandrels. Will they work in the Froster neck turner?

The mandrels for normal trimming is shorter than those used for outside neck turning. Go to the Foster Website. Comes in a little more expensive than those other brands, but you are sure it is done so for a purpose.
