Does anyone have a load for the 300 berger with RL33? I have a MRAD with a suppressor and just bought a 8 pound keg and was wondering if anyone has a a chance to find a great load for this combo.

Every Alligant powder that I have ever seen comes in 5 pound jugs...they must have switched to 8 pounders to match every other MFGR out there.

That is a good thing!!

4xforfun. didn't you know the Reloader 33 comes in 8 lb. I bought two of them last fall for 129,00 each. It is made by Bofers so it comes in 8 LB same as R50. Not sure about the R17 but those 3 are made in Sweden by Bofers and not in Australia by ADI or ADT. Try going on RELOADERS website and they should have some info for 338 Lapua. I am shooting an Improved and can use 104 with a 300. You should be down a coulple of grains from that. Maybe 4 or 5. Matt

60 seconds...litteraly..60 seconds before I read this thread I was on the phone with my "supplyer" and ordered a couple of five pounders. Now, he probably has never had anything more than the one pounders on his shelf, and I have never seen any Reloder powder in anything but 5 pounders, aso nothing was said.

Sixty seconds after I post this I will again be on the phone to "update " my order to 8 pounders!!

Thanks,
Tod

The reloader site says 97.5 with a 300 Sierra. You should be able to start there because I believe the bearing on the Sierra is longer then the Berger. It is a great powder to get good velocity with little pressure. I know some guys were getting 3000 with a straight Lapua but they were probably pushing it pretty hard. Matt

With the Berger, I am using 97 grains and the Sierra gets 96 grains. Bergers show around 3000 FPS from a 32 inch barrel and the Sierras around 2920.

I developed this load over a year ago in my TRG-42.

27 1/4" BBL 1:10" (chrome lined)
300 SMK
94.5 RL-33
F215M
Lapua Brass @ 2.9250" CBTO = 3.6820" COAL
Velocity was 2600 fps take by a Oehler 35P.

Side note, every powder I tested (IMR 4350, H1000, Retumbo, RL-33) showed a reduction in velocity when compared to every loading manual's data, except maybe the Berger Data. This may be from the chrome lined barrel but I'm not completely sure as to why that is the case here.

I will answer both questions. The recommended load for the 300 grain Sierra on Alliants website seems to be a good start for all the lapuas I have tried. That is Lapua brass, Berger 300 grain hybrids .060" off the lands, 97.5grns of RL33 all lit by a Fed215. The standard 215 seems to give lower ESs than 215Ms btw. You will start hitting a wall after 98grns where velocity will barely increase all the way to 100.5grns which is where I stopped, 100.5 was 40 fps faster than 97.5grns and the ES was horrible.

Alliant offers AR Comp, Varmint Pro, PP2000MR, PP4000MR, PP1200SR, RL33, RL50, and several of their shot gun and pistol powders in 8# jugs. RL17-RL25 are still sold in 5# jugs.

Many are reporting that ES is improved by loading their bullets close to the lands with RL33. I see you were 0.060" off the lands.

That's right .060" off in 3 different rifles and one which is a custom had an ES of 4 but that was only from the last 4 shot group. The other 2 had ESs in the low teens 13-15fps.
