leupold gold ring 12-40x60 vs 12-40x60 HD is there that much of a differance between the two or not?

I've got the HD model and can say it's on par with the Swaro 20-60X65 I had, but with much better eye relief. I picked it up gently used for $700 which was what the non HD's were selling for, so why not?
