So I am ordering a Pac Nor barrel tomorrow for my 338 lapua project. What is the ideal twist and number of groves in your opinion? They offer
3 groove 6" 10" 11" 12" 14"
5 groove 6.50" 7" 9" 9.50" 10" 12"
And some others. I will probably be shooting 300gr smks and maby 300 Nosler Accubonds. My edge has a 10 twist and does great but was wondering what the optimum twist is. Also is there a chance someone is going to offer a bullet With a higher bc that requires a faster twist that would still be acceptable with the bullets I listed? This is what got me thinking maybe 9.5" or maby 9", or is that too fast? And 3 or 5 groove? I have both in 6mm barrels and prefer the 3, but do not have any experience with it in 338 cal.

At this point I'm leaning towards a 5 groove 10 twist because I know it works.
Thanks for any insight.

I think you are right on here. This is what I would do as it seems to work so well why fight it. Less groves and tighter twists will put more stress on the jacket.
