So i've shot big things in my life and love to shoot my shotty but I really really really want to try varmint hunting. I've picked up a stevens 200 in .223 lightened the trigger and thrown a pentex 4X12X40 on it. Looking forward to taking it out and shooting. I live in New Mexico i'm stuck in the city despite being a farm kid at heart, so my hunting experience is lacking since i left high school i mean to fix that. using mainly public lands. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. I'm very much looking forward to using this forum and learning from it.

Welcome to Long Range Hunting.
Good luck with the varmints but be careful. Pretty soon you'll have to have a better scope, and then maybe some better reloading gear and then you'll just have to have a new, custom built dedicated long range varmint thumper.
