I bought a Howa mini .223 with the 1-8 twist recently. I found a very accurate load using Varget and the 60 grain vmax which I'll shoot coyotes with.

I also purchased a couple thousand Hornady 55 grain flat base soft points off a local classifieds for cheap last month. I bought them knowing they shoot in my 22-250.

I tried them with Varget in the Howa .223 but couldn't get anything under 1".

Anyone have any luck with other powders with the 55 grain and under in a 1-8" twist .223?

I use 25.5-26 grains of H335 in my bolt 223's with 55 grain bullets...for 3000+fps....Because I have plenty, cost less, fits the case, works fine and is/was always available compared to other powders.

Work up since it's beyond max in the newer manuals.

I made up 2K of Hornady 55 SPBT/C , I used 25.0 H335 with a aol of 2260
using this combo as a base , my AR's and Tikka SV shoots this
combo right at moa in all rifles , with 1-7 & 1-8, 1-9 twist barrels .
out of a 24 barrel 10 shot average. 3158 fps.
out of a 20 inch 10 # A# 3057 fps.
out of a 16 inch 10 # A# 2912 fps .
this should give you a idea .
