I didn't think I'd run into this big of a problem, but two "well known" and trusted smiths can't help me open a howa bolt face from .445 to .473. I can't get anything more specific, but they are not interested in this modification.

Anyone have a gunsmith recommendation you can share?

I don't think you will find anyone who will due to the extractor cut in the bolt face.

Try this guy on e-bay. Parts_unlimited_01 was recommended by a friend who lost his bolt. The recommendation came from Howa customer service.

More likely because they only did that size bolt face on the mini actions. The mini is a considerably smaller diameter action and bolt.

What are you trying to build?

If your current Howa bolt is a .445", then it's probably a mini action, and those actions were never made to support .473" or larger body cartridges because of their smaller diameter overall.

The 450 is lower pressure than the 458 and they don't currently list is as an option. I don't know how many of them made it to market before they dropped them as you can't find a used one, but I suspect they had a reason for not listing any .473" bolt face calibers.
