How well do current ballistic programs work?

Actually I think it was over the river in Olongapo. Back then I was probably attached to a YB, yet later I landed in Cubi. After 83 I needed to get a new gig. LOL.Subic Bayevery time you guys came a shore prices went up

In 2016 I was using canvassing apps for the Prez primary on some borrowed devices for NH & SC. There were big differences in between Apple & Android , of course.
However, there were little differences in the Android app depending on the brand of phone.
I got settled into my own LG by OH in March

Now for a little History, most of my Uncles and Dad where Army. 51-52 Dad went from E1 to Platoon Sergeant in one night as a Gimlet in Korea, Heavy Weapons. My only experience with Ballistic Programs came while carrying a Harris McMillan detachable mag 50 BMG Bolt while in-service. Qualifications were based on barrel specs of no more than 0.5 MOA. You figure out how far you needed to be able keep your rounds on a ten inch target to qualify EXPERT every year. 
Doubt away, what percentage of hits are required to shoot expert? This is why I'm so interested in current ballistic programs. 3800 yard trips with a bolt action 50 BMG as a norm means that there has to be a real upgrade in ballistic programs since the turn of the millennium. JMHO YMMV. 2K at 0.5 MOA used to be about all you could achieve in the 90's within Expert Expectations. YMMV. . Just in case you were wondering, a min score of 364 out of 400 is required to qualify EXPERT. Don't believe me, ask a real rifleman, question a MARINE. JMHO YMMV. LOL. USN Ret.

Good thing I mostly have Tract scopes, because of that pesky "scope correction factor".
I have watched the videos on how to get that.
However, I am not looking forward to buying or building the scope holding tool to determine it.

I'm definitely of the opinion that these current ballistic programs are GAME CHANGERS. Now I just need to contemplate if I'm ever going to shoot beyond supersonic ever again? Here lately I haven't gone beyond the 1K KD line, and the 308 Win 175 SMK easily remains super sonic at that distance. Just wonder how many pounds of batteries would be added to say a three day assault pack to keep all the electronics up and communicating? But I can see the relevance in gains attainable. Before the turn of the millennium anything that barely transitioned into trans sonic was a crapshoot. Now it appears to be more of how far past trans sonic can you adjust for with your optic. That is a definite technology advance. Thanks for the inputs y'all. I've been converted. TECH good, still not to sure about becoming battery dependent, but one step at a time.

Which is why you should have a backup compass and paper map, etc. Or the old fashioned DOPE card in our case. My pet peeve is these LCD screens you cannot read in bright sunlight. IDK what you do if you have to dial 911 for an auto accident, etc.
In 2016 when I was in OH for the campaign, I bought a DeLorme topographic county map in a Convenience Store. I was mocked by the others in my group, touting the GPS on their phones.
The canvassing apps draw a lot of juice, at the end of the day everyone's phone was dead. No GPS.
I got us back to the hotel with the DeLorme map. If we did not have it, on one of the interchanges we would have went the wrong way. Who knows how far we would have gone before realizing the mistake.
I bought that map book because I use to go to a Bible conference in OH every Memorial Day weekend. It was held in the middle of Amish country. Not the best for cell phone signals, but the GPS should have worked.
I just like to see the "big picture" on paper, not zooming in and out on a screen.

Waiting for Android.It's interesting you guys are taking about apps as the US Army is replacing the m4/m16 and 5.56 to a high pressure high BC bullet. Every one of those rifles comes with a optic that has the app in the optic along with the sensors and range finder built in. I hear most decent shooters are able to do 700 yard shots with thier basic battle rifle. Imagine what those 18 year old kids will be doing in 10 years. My 7mm prc isn't even trans sonic to 1400 yards. Makes you wonder how regular shots to that range will become.

Any idea of what "Uncle Sam" is being charged for these wonders?
Is this equipment going to have a non optical backup? Dung happens out there, so is this tool going to be usable if/when the complex fancy equipment is rendered unusable because of damage or component failure?
My primary ammo supplier is a scope guy. He has heard of too many failures of those red dots, etc. on people's hunting rifles. He mentioned that when he saw the Holosun gold dot on my Henry X lever action.
Of course, I suspect that those failures were not products in the $400-800 range. Optics is something where you get what you pay for, because quality comes with a price.
