For a year that started out kind of slowly for me and hasn't done much until recently. Things can turn around quickly.

Have shot a few black tails but this is my first mule deer and my sons first buck. Neither were long range, mine was at 225 yards and my sons 120.

Iv never shot at anything past 250yards. Its worked out that way. I actually got on the site when I was learning how to hand load. Those are great bucks. I can't wait until my son is old enough t to hunt with me.

Don't feel too bad I had a NV Spruce Mt bull elk tag that was unsuccessful. We saw trophy bulls everyday just couldn't make it happen and ended up running out of firewood (twice)

I hope I can add photos to this thread next week. I went out to put up my ground blind at one of three spots this afternoon and two does just started at me at 100 yards and then went right back to eating corn. I'm in a relatively new location this year because we moved last year. I did score last year, but a lot of luck and time was involved because I only had one very small spot of land to hunt.

We're done with my tag. Abner, one of four year olds, came along for his first deer hunt. 189 yards, XP-100 in .350 Rem Mag. 180 gr Speer at 2400 fps with 57 gr XBR8208 behind it. We're in the blind now with our 19 year old daughter who is packing "her" TC Encore in .357 Max. Same bullet, 400 fps slower with a little more than half the powder as the .350 RM. We have the nine year daughter with us in the blind this morning.

Not the monster I was hoping for but it was last day of my trip to Montana. And it was awfully cold for this Texas boy! Spotted two on a hill side, made a successful stalk to about 70yds. 7mm Rem Mag with 162gr SST's, he didn't go far....which was good cause I was freezing!

It has been quite a winter so far, cold and snowy. Good job. Nice buck.
