Hi, I'm very new to your world. Years of reading and learning on this forum lead me to start being interested in shooting at the distances NJ has to offer, generally 100 yd range close by and a 200 yd ranges some 1 and 2 hours away.
I have been a clays shooter and due to covid, like most of you, i have been unable to purchase or now afford the 7 to 10k rounds per year i shoot.
I have shot a bunch of 22lr at 100 yds over the years.
At 76 yrs old i have decided you give "longer range" a shot. Pun intended.
I have been shooting a ruger 308 mark 2 vtle for a few months and have been reasonably pleased with my self taught progress. On average 2 moa with the occasional (rare) 3 round 1moa group.
So much for backround.
Last week in a lgs i purchased a model 70 223 heavy varmit. It was used and by the general appearance seemed to be in decent shape. Stock, barrel exterior, bolt face etc didnt indicate abuse and the price was acceptable to me. Lgs offered borescope however it was too big for 22 cal. My scope was at home in NJ and I was in Florida. Like many on here i thought i could give it a better home.
I spent about an hour cleaning barrel with hoppes 9 and bronze brushes and decided to take a look.
Would some of you folks take a look and tell me just what i am seeing. I am including 1 pics of bolt condition and 7 vids of bore. Most of it is boring (i know) but there sections that look like pitting to me. Also are the striations that are perpendicular to the bore normal from the manufacturing process.
It is supposed to be a Wilson barrel.
