Alex sent me this cool video of his 300 WSM and the 166 Hammer Hunter bullet. When you see it…
It's the air friction. Hornady discovered their Amax plastic tips were melting away in flight, so they made them heat proof in the ELD line.I've got a good Hammer trail video with my elk kill. I understand that it's the machine oil in the nose cavity burning off that causes this. What I don't understand is what causes enough heat to instantly burn the oil.
Are you saying that the bullets get burning hot in a nano-second? Seems impossible. It's the air friction. Hornady discovered their Amax plastic tips were melting away in flight, so the made them heat proof in the ELD line.
Thats where the old term "hot lead" is derived. You haven't picked up a recently shot bullet. They're too hot to handle. Are you saying that the bullets get burning hot in a nano-second? Seems impossible.
