H4831 help?

I've been told that H4831 is a great powder in 300wby. Anyone ever try it in 270wsm? Thanks

Don't believe Barnes offers a 180gr TSX in .270. Are you inquiring about your .270WSM or the 300WBY?

H4831 is a powder I no longer bother with.
Had poor results with both the original version and the short cut version.
Tried it in 25-06, 270, 300Win, 338Win, 300Bee, 340Bee and 416 Rigby.
Not once did it get book velocities or accuracy worth a heck.
H4350 is a far better powder, as is H1000, RE25, RE22 or RE19.
If you're running a WSM, then RE17 is most likely going to be THE powder for it.

I use Jack O'Conners load of 60 grs of IMR4831 in several 270 Win I average 3100 out of 22 barrels dime size groups out to two hundred yards with 130 sierra bt and 130 ballistic tips

I disagree with the above statement, H4831 is one of the best all around powders on the market and is always in my supply. I use it in my 7wsm with great accuracy and descent speed-162gr at ~2950fps. It will work in your 270 WSM but may not be the best combo for that bullet weight and case. You may not get top speeds out of it but I have always found great accuracy with good speed in about a dozen different rifles.

I have had good luck with H4831, especially my 25-06. I would recommend buying a reloading manual in whatever brand of bullet you are shooting. Most bullet companies will have load data on their website also.

Some you can. Nosler has one of their load manuals on there web site but not the latest. Hodgedon, Alliant also have load data too. You won't find it for every bullet but usually can find a similar weight, style of bullet to give you a starting place. Remember solid copper bullets are longer for same weight of bullet and you need to decrease start loads by a couple of grains then work up to stay on the safe side.
