The small school in Wapati, Wy. was surrounded by a tall fence many years ago….to prevent grizzlies from having lunch at the school!

I live north of Bella Coola and the grizz are getting bold as brass since the yuppies in the lower mainland voted to get rid of the controlled grizzly bear hunt. But now the small communities are bearing the brunt of that decision. There is a large loss of revenue for the small communities that used to host hunters for bear hunting, and a large increase in human-bear conflicts. This will continue until people here have had enough and return the right to hunt to our citizens (not just those who deny their Canadian citizenship as "indigenous"). There is a lot of S-S-S that will be starting until that happens. I know it's happening up north.

Would sure make sense to have the teachers or escorts taking the kids out in the woods in KNOWN grizzly habitat armed with at least a handgun but sadly Canadians have given that right up.

I presume , and certainly hope , that the Man Teacher "took the brunt of the charge", in an effort to protect the children .

I see that not much has changed since back in 1972, but it seems to have only gotten worse. The tree hugging, draft dodging, hippies and yuppies were just starting to gain enough in numbers to affect local elections. Thank you USA for sending all the trash to BC. I can't imagine how bad it is now.
As far as the "indigenous people" getting to hunt and kill animals almost at will, that is okay—but they have to hunt with the same methods as their great, great grand parents. No more boat motors. No more modern rifles or handguns. Just bows and arrows and harpoons. And they must stay within the same laws and limits as the Whiteman.
I don't know how the political lines are drawn for voting in BC, but they need to allow the hippy-dippy dope fiends to vote on the laws for their areas, and let the real people of Canada vote on the laws and game laws in the area of the country in which they live. Put that in your peace pipe and smoke it!

No, I meant that to go unarmed was foolish. Sorry for any confusion. Even armed, going into woods known for big bears, with a pack of young kids? I personally don't think that's a swell idea in the first place.
Are you talking about an old bear with worn down teeth, dull claws, bad eyes and 200 pounds skinnier this year than last year, or are you talking about a plain old bear that is just outright mean and ornery grizzly acting bear that likes to eat little kids? You got it! You win the prize!
