Has anyone put a Green Mnt.barrel on their Ruger 10/22? If so how does it preform.
morning, yes I have a green Mnt. barrel on M70 Winchester
octagon barrel 250 savage. very accurate have no problems.
justme gbot tum
My dad put one on his 10/22. It shoots [email protected] yds pretty easy with cheap Rem. bulk ammo. He has never tried any good stuff in it. I put one on mine also but have not had the chance to shoot it yet. His is also a skinny original contour barrel.
The only experience I have had with 10/22 Ruger and Green Mountain barrels did not turn out great. About 2000- 2003 Midway ran a special, Green River 10/22 heavy barrel and a black laminated stock combination at a good price. Dick's Had a good sale on 10/22 Rugers. I reworked some of the action and built a 10/22 with Heavy barrel and laminated stock, It shot rather well, But would not shoot groups with my 1973 Aluminum butt plate 10/22 carbine. It became trade goods on my CZ 452 American Classic.
It could have been I did not take the time and money to find a load that matched the load to the twist of the barrel for good accuracy.
Good barrel for the money with a lot of options. Not a Lilja however.
Well, I went on ahead and got a Green Mtn. barrel, 20 inch same contour as stock barrel, nothing fancy ya know. Took everything apart to the bare receiver and put the new GMT barrel in, went to the gun range and started to break the barrel in,,,I'm truly impressed. 30 rounds CCI Mini Mag 36 gr. bullets in a hole at 50 yards ya can cover with a dime. That's pretty ---- good compared to the original factory barrel.
I put a 16” Green Mountain barrel on my Ruger precision rimfire rifle. My factory barrel was a good shooter but had a lot of fliers.
The green mountain barrel seems to have a lot less random fliers and accuracy has been really good. I did these accuracy tests the day I got it. It has continued to tighten up as it breaks in.
Good and Bad
10-22 barrel is pretty good with less than 1/2" @50 yd accuracy using el-cheapo ammo
1/4" with good ammo!
Bought a pre-threaded mauser barrel on sale at Midway... Complete POS.
Poorly made with absolutely NO quality control.
Fluting done by a 12 year old and threads were completely out of spec.
BTW the roughing reamer left chatter marks the finish reamer could not remove
I will not buy anything from them in the future
I put a GM 18" 22LR 10/22 Fluted Bull Barrel on my 10/22 Squirrel rifle and I cannot believe the 50 yard groups I am getting using plain old Mini-Mags. Even with the limiting factors of my eyes and scope, I can get 1/2" groups or less. I'm not sure if it's needed, but I used the Gunsmither Barrel Block instead of the OEM V block to make sure I didn't run into barrel droop issues. To be truthful, I started to purchase a Feddersen but the build was for my daughter and I started going over my allotted budget. I honestly don't know that I could get much better results than what I am getting right now. She has better eyes and steadier hands and I've seen her get groups in the .3's with the right ammo.
Not a 10-22 but i bought a 17 cal blank in 2003 and my buddy made me a 17 ackley hornet on a cz action. Really amazing little shooter for the money invested..
