I finally got my Bear skull back. It is pretty evident this guy didnt have too much time left, his K9's are all worn down and broken. Teeth are missing etc.. I dont have the official age back from the Biologist but the Game Warden aged him at over 20. I am happy with how it turned out. He looks pretty gnarley and beat up and some of the bone is decaying.
His Measurements are 9" wide X 13 1/4" Long

Jeez Mike i had to put on sun glasses to look at him he's so white.:D

That looks awesome. Man these Barnes Bullets are killing some monsters. Your bear, the Spider bull.....:D

HAHA Thanks, I dont know if this bear and the spider bull are in the same class but the Barnes Bullets are laying the smack down on some critters!
I say they are in the same class. That's one HUGE bear Mike. Did you say that this was your first bear hunting over bait?

He's good enough to take first in species, and be competitive in the overall at most shows! Can't say for sure, but I think our Bighorn show still gives a rifle in the overall. You should call around could be fun for you, and lots of folks never saw a Black Bear that big. Must be close to when you can officially score him?

Carl, What shows are you talking about? I dont think they do that around here... at least not that I have heard of. From my understanding the 60 day drying period starts after its been cleaned... so now.

Mike,
In March we have the Bighorn Sports Show. Guides, products, services, and the trophies. Generally itsdivided into current kill, and prior year harvest. Official BC measurers to score on site. Best of species highest score. Best of show highest percentage of BC minimum. Example Black Bear 21" miniminimum. 22" roughly 110% . Ribbons to 3rd place, Nice buckles for best in species Although I'be heard the fellow making buckles all these years might not be able to continue. Grand Prize has mostly been a rifle. I thought there were others about still. The local one been going since the 60's I think. Thinking on it maybe its down to guides and outfitter stuff. I'll check around and maybe some one will chime in about sport shows that still have head and horn competition.

He's not jokin Mike. I was ecstatic when I got one big enough for Oregon Book! You dwarfed mine, & yours is easily big enough for Boone & Crockett all time book! That's a BIG B@$+ard!!
You could easily sweep most any local contest, almost as many state contests, & be a contender for the prizes & $$$.

Your the MAN Mike! Looks awesome too. Don't worry about the current bright white appearance. The natural oils will eventually turn it more yellowish.

Great Bear bud. That's a once in a lifetime class critter..... Ofcourse YOU, tend to out do yourself on a pretty consistant basis, so MAYBE, just Maybe there's another Big one out there with your name on it.

Congratulations on one heck of a bear. That skull should make any hunter happy.

Getting a rug done too? That's one of the cool things about bear trophies - the skull usually gets done pretty quickly, then the rug comes along later. For a lot more money too...

Regards, Guy
