I got a deal on a sale of an Eddie Bauer PEAK XV parka. It is likely good to -40 F./C. I've experienced -40 F. but not with this parka - so far. Bauer identifies it as a "base camp/expedition parka".
The PEAK XV parka is almost exactly the same design as Patagonia's Fitz Roy parka but the PEAK XV is likely a bit warmer and is heavier - and a lot less expensive when on sale.
->It has "Storm Down", EB's Durable Water Repellant (DWR) down. Like the Dri Down and Down Tech versions it repels moisture and soaks up 30% less than untreated down and drys 60% faster.
->The shell is a Cordura brand fabric that is very tough but light
->The hood is "helmet compatible" and it does easily fit over my ski helmet.
->This is a FULLY baffled parka, torso, arms snd hood, meaning no sewn-thru seams and no cold spots.
It comes in blue with red zippers and lining and all black (recommended for hunting). Sale price $299. regular price $499.
