Glock 20, Gen 4 replacement barrel

I tried searching, however struck out with the search!! Curious about what is out there for a replacement barrel for a Glock 20, gen 4?? I'd like to find something that is a "drop in" barrel if I can find something, Right now I we have been shooting jacketed bullets, however I have a number of Rim Rock 200 and 220 grain hard cast bullets that I would like to shoot up. I was told that the Rim Rock bullets "can" be shot in the Glock 20, I am just not certain and would prefer an aftermarket barrel if I can find something. Also this will serve as a Christmas present for my son. We carry the 20s while black bear hunting, just a little extra security if we need it, and...it's always by your side. I'm not looking to go crazy, something that is going to "work". I have read on this forum where a heavier recoil spring and guide rod are recommended as well. Any feedback would be appreciated. There's lots of literature out there, curious about what other forum members have encountered and what they are using?

The best drop in barrels I have bought lately were KKM. Lone Wolf has been hit and miss. I had one of their alpha Wolfe barrels split starting at one of the flutes.
If they are using it for bear protection it needs to be as reliable as possible so the factory barrel and jackets bullets would get the nod.
The latest trend which is sticking a 9" barrel on the gun is also a hit and miss. You may have seen some of the posts about guns stringing shots after they put a 9" barrel in a Glock. The reason is with the extra barrel weight out front some guns won't lock the same way after each shot. The more barrel there is to rock back and re lock the more the effect is amplified.
It is one if the pitfalls to buying parts and just sticking them on the gun. I have been thinking about doing a post on does and don't of Glock mods. That is one of the issues I want to cover. Another point is that no barrel should be considered just a drop in.
Any aftermarket part may require fiting such as feed ramp work.
The short answer would be KKM and take necessary steps to make it run. I have achieved s I me incredible accuracy with their barrels but have had to re-clearance the recoil block on some of them and do some feed ramp work on a few.
It is worth it to me because I have some Glocks that are capable of 2" 100 yard groups. As long as they are running stock level 10mm loads the factory spring and rod are fine.
Off the top of my head the oem G20 spring is 20#. That will work with Buffalo Bore ammo. It gets confusing for people when they see spring recommendations which are more appropriate to conversations about 45, 45 Super , 460 Rowland and .40 Smith and Wesson.
The 10mm is already in the pressure range of a 45 Super so it is tuned accordingly from the factory. If they want to change the rod and spring I have had great luck with the NDS sets.
A 20# captive spring and rod does add some reliability for long term use. The best single mod to make to a G20 is a set of facts good sights. Right now Fusion sights are the best bang for the buck. Hope that helps.

I'd like to thank you for sharing this reply. This is the type of information that I was posting about. I have read a lot of replies in different threads about what others are using for their Glock 20 set ups for shooting heavy bullets. I'm not looking to shoot 2 inch groups at 100 yards, however the operative word is "RELIABILITY" more then anything else. I am not too familiar with a "captive spring" set up but will do some research on them. If what I have will work with the Buffalo Bore heavies I will try them. I do not have Buffalo Bore ammunition, I have Rim Rock "bullets" who is the company that makes the hard-cast bullets for Buffalo Bore. Thank you again.

That really great news to hear. Glad that he is interested in joining the group. A post on "dos and don'ts" about Glocks would certainly be appreciated. Everyone has their thoughts and a lot of knowledge on many topics on this forum. I tried a search and came up with one post, and....that one was one of mine where I was looking for some input on a laser sight.

There is no reason not shoot hard cast bullets in a Glock. Soft lead bullets are the problem.

I thought this but was not sure. I was thinking aftermarket to make sure, I didn't want a Glock blowing up on me. I loaded a batch if the Rim Rock 200gr @ around 1100fps. Hopefully I'll get to the range soon.
