Without dwelling on particular brands or models, what are some of your go-to gift ideas for the outdoors/hunter/shooters on your list? Particularly the new or aspiring ones? Maybe just stocking-stuffers for yourself.

I'll list a few of my own ideas in the $50-and-under category and would appreciate hearing yours.

  • Rechargeable lighting, including solar lamps, rechargeable headlamps & flashlights, and other small lights for tent or camp. I'm a proponent of getting away from packing extra alkaline batteries and the options these days are strong.
  • Inflatable pillow. Lightweight and helps with a good night sleep in a tent.
  • Spork. This classic has been redesigned several times over by several companies.
  • Skinning knives and field dressing accessories. Good especially for new hunters.
  • Head, neck, and hands accessories. New hunters/outdoors people can often benefit from some well-targeted hats, neck warmers, face covers, lightweight gloves, etc.
  • Game calls of all sorts.

My best hunting buddy's birthday is just before deer season, and I can always find something "useful" as a gift. A few are over budget, but in 55 years of hunting together there were a couple milestone birthdays...
Some of those useful gifts I can recall:
"Hot Hands" chemical hand warmers
2-way radios
Swivel & packable chair/stool
"Mr. Heater" portable propane heater
Walker electronic ear protection
Shooting sticks/bi-pod/trigger stick
Range finder
Binoculars
Illuminate reticle scope
Pop-up blind
ATV gun rack/truck ramp/camo cover
Recoil & normal style ratchet straps
Bungie cords/twist tie-downs
Deer drags
Truck tow ropes
Torque wrench/driver kit

22 lr ammo and other ammo
Pair of quality socks
Always reloading supplies and tools that are neat to try
Bore guide, cleaning rods and other cleaning supplies
Torque wrench
Walking stick
Bino and rangefinder harnesses or packs
Targets
Ammo boxes and cases
Heck I'm old enough to remember when you could buy a rifle for under the $50 mark

A good compass, and a space blanket, rain gear, mora kniv, fire starter rod, small first aid kit.Not big ticket items but items I always carry in my pack while hunting.

I like the adventures of lew and Charlie. It's a series of books you can order from fish-fur-game. I ask for one every year. I think there are up to 7 books now
