What is your primary long range hunting cartridge? A Weaver Custom in 300 Ultra Mag is my primary hunting rifle/round but I also use a Sako Deluxe 7mm STW and a Weatherby Accumark 338-378 according to the game, wind and my many personal quirks.

Do you use factory ammunition? Never. WAY too expensive and not accurate enough.

If so, which brand and load do you use?

Bullet caliber: .270, 7mm STW, 30-30, 308, 30-06, 338-06, 35 Whelen, 338 Win Mag, 338-378

Bullet brand used most often: Barnes TTSX - being from California. Wish I could still shoot Accubonds though. Still, with enough load development the TTSX's are reasonably accurate.

Bullet model or shape: (I.e.VLD, SST, Scirocco, Game King, Ballistic Tip, etc.) Either TTSX or MRX for hunting. MatchKings or Berger VLDs for target competitions.

Bullet weight: 180 grain TTSX for the 300 Ultra. (I presume that you want the "most common long range hunting" round here.) But just in case - I shoot 160 MRXs in the 7mm STW and 225 TTSXs in both my 338 Win Mag and my 338-378.

Bullet BC: Don't know because it doesn't matter much in CA - I have to use the non-toxic bullets and I just get my ups and overs empirically since I only shoot one bullet from each different caliber gun when hunting and the copper rounds require a lot of load development. Actually, I just take the same setups to Wyoming when I hunt there too.

Velocity in fps: in the 300 Ultra, somewhere between 3200 and 3300 fps. Generally, I load my 3 truly long range hunting rounds to between 3200 and 3400 fps. That seems about the max I can use and still have the bullets remain reasonably intact if I unexpectedly jump a critter way too close for the long range gun I'm carrying. Just about vaporized a pig I had to shoot at 70 yards with the 7mm STW shooting 160 MRXs last year. Tore all the petals off and looked like I used a 50 BMG to shoot him.
