I read lots of other firearms sites, but avoid ar15.com like the plague. Even after reading one of the more civilized threads over there, I feel like I need to shower with brown soap and steel wool.

You've got that right brother lol. Sometimes it is hard to find a place that you can actually gain something from on the net. I was a member over on surplusrifle as well, but never really visit as much anymore. I too have a warm spot in my heart for those old rifles. Takes me back to buying a turk mauser dirt cheap and running surplus ball through it at about 300 yrds and banging steel. I didn't really care so much if I missed but I believe that is where my conquest truly started.
