Flash reduction

Hi, we don't have access to mechanical flash reducers here, so I was curious about other methods to help manage muzzle flash.

There is some literature and an expired patent about using potassium bicarbonate powder in between the normal powder load and the bullet as a flash suppressor. The normal quantities appear to be in the 1-10% of the powder charge, with 5% being typical.

Since this chemical is quite safe - even food grade, it seems like a viable possibility for a hand loader to handle. Chemically, it appears to work by the heat decomposing it into CO2, etc. (it is used in fire extinguishers)

Anyone have more information for use in rifles, like .270W, etc?

Thanks
