First Long-Range Gun

Hey everyone, sorry in advance for maybe doing this in the wrong area or whatever, new to the site and how it works. So I am going to put together a rig. My thoughts are a Remington 700 5R 24" mill spec ( after extensive research, comments and thoughts welcome) Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50 FFP with XLR reticle in MOA. Badger Ordinance 20 MOA rail and Vortex Precision Matched Rings. Probably Atlas bipod in future, cheap Champion for now.. but does this seem like a worthy rig to start with? I have heard these guns like 175 Match Kings..hard to find anything on the newer ones, are they as good as the 'first' run?

i can't tell what you are shooting at. i can't tell what caliber rifle.

It will mostly be for sport, paper punching and metal gongs, it will be a .308

I love my 24" 5R .308.....Had it since about late 2010.

24-shot group @ 100 yards. 1.286" corrected measurement.

I've never heard of a 24 shot group before, but that is **** impressive! Says a lot about the gun AND the shooter.

I got bored and decided to shoot the last 24 handloads I had loaded just to see if I could do it. Plus, my buddy that was with me bet me that I couldn't put them all under 2". I had to accept the challenge.

Mud- what load?

For some reason my .308 is not picky at all on seating depth. I can load to SAAMI or to the lands and it will shoot good.

Here's the load I was shooting that day, which has become my go-to load for 168gr bullets.

Nosler 168 Custom Comp bullets
Lapua brass
Fed 210 primers
44.0gr of Verget
Seated to SAAMI spec of 2.810"

I try...I will try to shoot a better group next time I take her to the range. Right now the scope is on my 7mm STW. I'll try to give a better group next time.

Can we get back on topic please? Gunna do some shooting tomarrow will post my abilities. 5r still not here:/ but break in of brothers armalite ar-30a1 is almost completed so we will use that!
