OK, I am going to try and keep a running thread on my future son-in-law Brandon's first ever hunt. Kind of a semi-live thread.
It started earlier this year when he asked if I would take him hunting. Not knowing he has never:
1. Applied for any hunt
2. Never hunted anything
3. Never shot a rifle other than an AR a few times at 40 yards. He has shot pistols before.
I put him in for the AZ Deer draw with 0 bonus points.
Now I had 12 BPs and Taylor (my daughter) had 8 BPs (I think).
So when I got a CC hit from AZGFD, I figured either Taylor or I drew a 12A Kaibab tag...NOPE! Mr. 0 points drew the tag! I was both disappointed and stoked at the same time.
Over the next couple months, I took him shooting a few times.
The first time, we went to the local steel range for some training. I spent the first half hour or so explaining techniques, positions, and general knowledge. After about 30 minutes, it was time to take his first ever shot with a rifle. He was shooting my 15.5# target 25CM.
First shot, ding! Center punched a 6" round. He asked "How far was that, like 100 yards?" I said, "No. 353 yards."
That day, he went 1st round hits on steel at 350, 450, 500, 540, 600, 660, 720, and 780. I was shocked. The kid can shoot.
The next day, I took him to the range, and he shot this 7 round group at 100 yards with the 25CM.
I took him a few more times to get him comfortable with some other rifles as well. He is a shooter! (Yes, he is a lefty).
I took him scouting one weekend...and he tells me "I have never seen a deer before". Huh?
Well, we ended up seeing about 125 deer, and 35 bucks that weekend. By the 2nd hour, he was seeing deer on his own.
We are trying out the 145 Black Hole RBT in 3 of the 4 rifles we brought along.

6.5PRCSI 156 Elite @ 2968 (22")
So the day has come, and we are off on his first ever hunt! All loaded up!
