First Elk

a tractor ????? now that's just not fair, My first Elk back in the late 70's was only about 2 miles from camp but it took ALL day to pack it out and I had a Horse. shot it 30 min after sun up then had tried to pack it out with the horse, the horse couldn't carry it. then cut it in 1/2 still to much for the horse, we were in the Missouri breaks in Montana and down in a Ravine my partner and I finally 1/4'd the elk and packed it out on our backs 3 trips packing to camp on foot made for a very long day. we got done well after dark, to tired to eat almost fell asleep standing up.
Ya it takes two (horses or mules) to pack out a elk. When you quartered it you could have made two trips with one pack animal. Beautiful country where you were hunting.
