Hi, I'm John. I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. So if the post is in the wrong area I'm sorry.
A little background, I have been reloading for 14 years and shoot as often as I can. Now I am in search of wisdom from some people more knowledgeable than myself.
This is my first custom rifle build, not my first custom rifle. Its a Stevens 200, that I have added a 28" pac-nor super match barrel 1-8 twist 3 groove, timany trigger and a millit tsr1 scope. My average shots on coyotes and deer where I'm hunting here in Missouri will average 300-400 yards. Now that I have given a little tech info on the rifle I was hoping that any of you guys that have 6-06 Springfield's could help me with some load data you have acquired over your years of shooting. Maybe some tips as well. I plan on shooting 95 to 105 gr pills. Any more info that you need please ask.

I currently have a his and hers in 6-06. Hers has a 26 inch barrel that I use 95 Bergers in with Retumbo. Mine is 1 28 inch Boughton that I use 105 Bergers in with RE-33. I used 240 Weatherby loads as a guide when I started loading for them. 6-284 data can be used as well. capsity is fairly close between all three just start low and work up. Both rifles work great on deer, haven't had to track one yet.

Thanks for your reply. What kind of speed are you getting with the 105s? Could you tell me what your pet load is by chance? My barrel will be here in a few weeks and im getting very excited. I havent picked up any bergers yet but i do have 105 amax, 105 nosler cc, 107 smks, and alot of 95gr nosler bts.

Great cartridge choice!

I've been running my 6-06 for almost a year now. Primary purpose for the build is long range hogs and coyotes. It's an 8 twist, 26 in Brux on a Remmy 700 Action. The heavy bullets really make the 6-06 shine. I settled on the Berger 105 Hybrid.

As for loads, I started with 240 Weatherby Data and it worked well. My best combination of accuracy and speed came from RL-25 and Norma MRP, with the edge going to RL-25. My pet load of 54 gr gets me a skosh over 3300fps and sub moa all the way to 500 yds, which is the furthest I've taken it.

With the 105 Hybreds I am running 62 grains of RE-33, Fed 210M primers and .005 jump. The load is averaging 3469 again with a 28 inch barrel. I also use a long drop tube. For brass I use laupa 06 brass and step in down first with a 270 die, then a Redding full length s die with a .292 bushing and finally finish off with a 243 die. The brass will need trimming between each step. I end up with 3/4 of the neck sized this way and have a nice tight neck fit in the chamber. My grandkids love the guns and have already claimed them for their own use...

I will start using 240 why data, but I have a rookie wildcatter question. There's only a few thou. Difference between my 6-06 and a 25-06, and the 240 data seems enemic compared to the 25-06. Has any one used 25-06 data? Thanks again for the replies.

Besides the 105 Hybrid, I've only tried the 105 Amax and the 105 VLD. I wasn't happy with the Amax groupings, but this was early on in load development and admittedly I haven't tried them since. The VLD's were much better, but were a skosh inconsistent for my liking. Tried the 105 Hybrid and never looked back. They're not as finicky as the VLD's. I killed 2 hogs, a 9 point whitetail, and a doe this past season with the Hybrid. I was initially hesitant using the Hybrids on game, but they performed superbly.

I WOULD NOT use 25-06 data. That's a slippery slope, imo. The 25-06 has a tad more case capacity than a 240 or 6-06.

Unfortunatley, the problem you'll find with Weatherby data is it's usually pretty watered down, but does provide a level of conservatism. I would ask someone here to run 240 Quick Load data on the powders you have or are interested in using. I would try your RL-22. It's very similar to MRP. Some even say it's interchangeable. That being said, I've had excellent luck with MRP and the 105's. You'll probably find your max around 53.0 gr, give or take a grain.

MOJO you have been a great help, I will start out using re22 around 49-50 gr. Do you use berger data? I have 9th hornaday, 6th and 7th nosler, speer #14, and I'm about to order the new sierra guide. Can either of you gentlemen share some specifics on your chamber I can compare to mine?

John given your 28 inch barrel try to find some RE-33 or you will leave a lot of velocity on the table. Been there done that with faster powders. As far as chambers, mine is pretty much built to bench rest standards. I can fire a cartridge and go ahead and reload it with no resizing needed. My neck tension is only .001 on a loaded round but given the mild recoil it doesn't cause any problems with rounds in the mag. Given your location RE-33 will be a more stable powder over 22 also.

I found some quickload data containing rl-33,doesn't look like I can overload the case with it.

Code:
Cartridge : .240 Weath. Mag.
Bullet : .243, 80, Barnes 'TTSX' BT 24338
Useable Case Capaci: 58.452 grain H2O = 3.795 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.100 inch = 78.74 mm
Barrel Length : 24.0 inch = 609.6 mm
