fire forming 338 rum to 338 edge

Can you fire form 338 rum to 338 edge? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.

Yes and no. but the necks will be very short (.090 shorter)because the 338 RUM case is 2.760 and the 338 Edge uses the 300 Rum case that is 2.850 long.

you need to use the 300 RUM case for the Edge.

I believe you can run .375 RUM brass through a .338 EDGE die to make .338 EDGE brass, but you'll most likely then need to turn the necks down as they'll probably be too thick.

Yes but....

It's all been said but I will repeat it as I shoot 338 Edge.

Necking up 300 is "best". A little neck turning is good but not required.
Necking down 375 is second best. You need to be sure of your neck wall thickness so measure or just them.

0.0165 neck wall thickness is my max but I really prefer 0.015.

To use 338 RUM You will need to create a false shoulder by necking up to .358 or .375. Then run it through the 338 Edge die.

Not worth the trouble just run a 338 ultra. with a 338 ultra having edge length barrel ,they are so close it doesn't matter.

338 RUM brass is not as readily available and is only made by Rem & Nosler, 300 RUM brass is made by Rem, Nosler, Norma, Federal......
also a lot more 300 RUM shooters at the range that don't reload you can get once fired brass from, I have a couple guys that give it up for free, I run the fired brass through a Redding FL 338 Edge die then COW bang it in my rifle with 20 gr of H 110 and neck size only afterwards,
2900 fps with Berger 300 gr Hunting bullets with sub moa accuracy,
the 338 RUM will never get you there, the only shine it has over the EDGE is factory ammo which means nothing to long range shooters

338 Edge dies are available here .....

I don't ever use other peoples once fired brass especially in a custom. And with a 28-30 inch barrel yes you can reach 2900 fps with a 338 rum and a 300 gr especially with RL33. Ran Both edges and 338 Rums side by side and seen the results. Brass quality/availablity is the only reason to consider a edge. a 338 Rum is also a bit easier to work with OAL in a 3.70 mag box.If a guys determined to go EDGE by all means do it, but don't expect a performance gain over a long barreled RUM.
