I'm having a tough time finding Federal Premium .338 225 gr. ammo which my rifle prefers. But Federal Fusion 225 gr. is readily available. My question is whether there is any real difference between Premium and Fusion except for the bullet used, i.e. Accubond or Trophy Bonded vs. whatever Fusion is stuffed with. Thanks for any insight.

The main difference is the quality of the components used. Fusion is there cheep line of ammo and
normally, quality control is normally an issue with cheep ammo, also primers and powder are normally substituted for the better components.

With all of the shortages, I see a loss in quality even in the premium ammo. I am finding lots of brands of ammo now that don,t meet SAMME standards causing head space problems, (To much , or not enough).

About all you can do Is try it and see if it does ok and is good enough for your hunting needs.

Thanks much. That helps. Guess I'll give it a try at least for practice/sighting in. Of course, for final sighting in, I'll shoot a few of my Premiums. I tried Winchester's premium line last year and it didn't shoot worth a darn in my gun. Fortunately I still have a few boxes of Premium rat holed away.
