Looking for input on a 2nd rifle.

I built a custom 7prc for my long range work and hunting where there is more open space.

Now I'm looking for a rifle for everything else, eastern whitetail, black bears ect.. 300-350 yards maximum shots with most being much closer.

I've been looking at howa superlite but can't decide 6.5 creed, 7/08 or 308. They also sell the rifle in 16" and 20 inch barrel lengths.

What rifle are you all using for your hunts that might still be pack in hunts but not "long range" type hunting?

I've been leaning pretty hard on the 7/08, what barrel length do you like with it. I feel like 7/08 would be better in 20" than 16"
I run a Winchester Featherweight with a 22" barrel and a range rifle with a 26". I'm thinking about picking up a PH3 and putting a 20" barrel on it as a new hunting rig.

If you reload.... 7-08 with a 20" bbl. 120 grain Ballistic Tip, 120 grain TTSX, and 160 grain Partitions are what have worked well for me.

If not.... 6.5 manbun or .308 for the "off the shelf" variety of ammo.

Remember, shot placement and bullet construction for impact velocity mean more than headstamp.

Be sure to keep the thread updated. Pics are always welcome.

I have a bunch of hunting rifles but 9 out of 10 times I turn to my 308. I used a Steyr with a 20in barrel for 25 years before I sold it to upgrade never took had a need to fire at game at more than 300 yards but it drt every thing I shot.

This boils down to personal preference and whether you want the same caliber as your 7 PRC. If so, go with the 7MM-08. Do not overcomplicate it unnecessarily; any on your list will serve you well. In my neck of the woods, if you rely heavily on factory ammo, it is between 6.5 CM and .308 Win. Good luck!

7-08 or 308 is hard to beat. At ranges you posted 7-08 has no real advantage except tad faster and flatter but lighter bullet in 308 equals that, what 7-08 cant equal is if you run into trouble and need 180-200+ gr for dangerous game if need presented itself. I love them both.
