Eberlestock Just One

If you haven't decided on a pack yet, I've just finished putting my thoughts together on the Eberlestock Just One pack.

My first pack was a J34 'Just One'. I used it on my first mule deer hunt back in 2013. I sold it in the offseason. It was durable and performed just ok carrying my hunting gear, but just did not ride well with more than about 30 pounds. Also, it was heavy empty. It always felt like it was pulling me back and down especially when I had it loaded up to about 65 lbs during training hikes.

Hey, I carried my heaviest load ever with a Just One. Hide right off of a Nine foot brown bear. Still had one whole paw on it, I guess somewhere between 120-150 lbs. The pack handled the weight fine. It was about 3.5 miles back to camp, it kicked my butt. Getting a pack properly fitted is key. They are a bit heavy, but they are bomb proof packs and can carry a seriously heavy load when fitted to your frame(body)!

The Eberlestock mainframe is bomb proof and their system will carry pretty much any load you want to try. I have 5 seasons on my pack system and have had zero failures. I don't have any illusions that this is an ultralight backpacking pack. The Eberlestock is purpose built for loads and modularity. The system just plain works. And their customer service is fantastic.

I have a Just One, it was a Blue Widow model. It definitely was tough, it just wasn't adjustable enough and it didn't have any actually usable load lifters. It weighed a ton and just didn't carry weight very well. I got rid of it and got a Stone Glacier, night and day difference. It doesn't look like they've made anything with usable load lifter so I have no reason to even consider their packs for hunting. I have a mini me (?) that I pack my fishing gear in, and another pack that I take for our WPR matches.

I had a Just One for several years. Very well made, sturdy, reliable and bit heavy. With good construction comes some weight. Great pack! I did sell it two years ago. I got a smaller Eberlestock, they are very good packs.
